Our awesome friends at Brisbane City Rollers are coming to play some friendly rivalling scrimmage games with us in the next few weeks. This is valuable game, league and team experience for everyone involved and helps with our selection process for our more serious and challenging inter-league games coming up in the next few months. Cannibella will be looking for peeps for the NSO positions for each games so be sure you volunteer when she asks you..  It will really help you to getter better understanding of the game play and rules. The Refs are very friendly and are used to people learning these positions so GO ON - DO IT! It’s also compulsory before you play!

We are still looking for volunteers for medics for Mini Bouts, if you know anybody who can kindly donate some time to watch over these events for us we would be very grateful!

Oceania Exhibition @ Carrara Stadium
This was an event for the history books for GCRD. With a nice tight game between PainClinic and MurdaMaids,  we certainly proved to the skating community that Roller Derby is not all about fishnets and catfights, we went out there with heart and soul and you did us proud, nice work! We had awesome feedback from the event organisers and I think we can safely say..... WE ROCKED IT!!!

Mentors, Guest Coaches and Trainee Refs
You have probably noticed we have a few extra people on skates attending our training sessions,  these people are our trainee refs, guest coaches and mentors and are here to help.  As you have seen in previous newsletters we have been searching for volunteers to fill these positions. These people are like gold to us, they have chosen to invest time and energy into our league to help us get to where we want to be.  We will be trying different ways to implement them and would really appreciate it if we could all pull together and make them feel welcome, we are a big league and its not always easy to meet everyone so introduce yourselves!

‘Painadoll’ - Sammi Carter - Track and Team Co-Ordinator (Ref and Level 2 Skater)
‘Cannibella’ - Leah Brimblecombe - (Ref and Level 3 Skater)
‘Funksta’ - Guy Waterford - Mentor (In-line Hockey Coach/Player)
‘Johnny Smash’ - Mentor/Coach/MC - Enuf Said

They may not all have Roller Derby experience but they are all willing to learn and they have on-skate experience for us to draw on, so please be respectful and friendly.

NEW - Speed Skate Lessons - Mondays 6-30pm - 7.30pm - Runaway Bay $5 with Matt
A friend of a few of our league members, Matt is an experienced speed skater and is willing to coach speed skating lessons to help our league skate a little or a whole lot faster.  Make sure your ready to go at 6.30! This is open to all league members.
